FRANK KELLOGG HONORED FOR HIS LIFE TIME OF SERVICE

Frank Kellogg has taken on many titles throughout his life: doctor, valedictorian, soldier, school board trustee, and “President for Life.” The last label was bestowed by his Anaheim High classmates throughout 70 years of reunions. The group of nearly 200 graduates earned their diplomas on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

Dr. Kellogg, who retired in 2013 after 57 years as a pediatrician in Orange County, was the Class of 1944 student body president, class valedictorian and played the lead role in the senior class production of “Gentle Youth.”

His connection to his alma mater, where his father Frank Kellogg Sr. served as a coach, math teacher, vice principal and principal from 1925 to 1962, continues today. He is serving on the 70th reunion committee and he makes an annual visit to the Pearson Park Amphitheater where their graduation was held to remember his classmates who served in World War II.????????????

Born May 10, 1926, Dr. Kellogg has exemplified a life of service. Like many of his classmates, Frank served in the Navy, getting a head start on his pre-med education at UCLA as part of the V-12 Naval Training Program. After UCLA, he entered Stanford Medical School, earning his medical degree in 1951 with special training in pediatrics and infectious disease. He interned at San Francisco City and County Hospital and did his residency at Stanford.

In 1950, he married his wife of 63 years, Shirley, a former nurse. They have lived in the same home in Garden Grove since 1956.

With the advent of the Korean War, Dr. Kellogg entered active duty in the Navy from 1952 to 1954, serving aboard the USS Antietam. He then became the first chief pediatric resident at UCLA Medical Center before opening his private practice in Garden Grove in 1956, which continued through 1993.

He then joined the St. Joseph Heritage Medical Group and retired in May 2013 after 57 years as a pediatrician. But he’s not really retired. Dr. Kellogg is on the administrative staff of Children’s Hospital of Orange County, continuing his service as a charter member since 1964. He is also an emeritus member of St. Joseph Hospital, where he has served on the medical staff since 1957.????????????

He also presided over the Orange County Pediatrics Society and the City of Garden Grove Human Resources Commission. In addition, he has provided leadership on the CHOC Medical Executive Committee and Board of Directors, as well as for the St. Joseph Medical Group.

Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Kellogg received the St. Joseph Medical Group Harper Award for Outstanding Physician in 2007, the Top Pediatric Physician in 2008 and the Top Disease Management Physician in 2011.
